"Love" Mixed Media Album

Hello all. Busy busy week for me as Chinese New Year came closer and closer. Lots of spring cleaning, shopping and preparation to do.

Today I want to share about my mini album project (part 2 assignment) for My Little Shoebox this month. I made this mixed media album with the Secret Garden collection and some from Sew Cute collection. This album is by Punky Sprouts. I love their album and I tend to want to keep them in their raw look without covering too much of it.

"Love Punky Sprouts" Mixed Media Album

"Love" Mixed Media Album a

This album is dedicated to my favourite icons, images that I loved and used often. Also included my favourite colour combos, mixed media techniques. For the front cover, I tore out to reveal the corrugated part of the board. Then I adhered the paper over it and added gauze and some Dusty Attic chipboard honey comb shapes. I spread some texture paste over the chipboard shapes and misted them. For the Love title, I also added glossy accent.

For all the mixed media paper pages in the album, I sprayed afew mists on my craft sheet and simply drag the paper through them to create the background. For the chipboard pages, I spread gesso through for the background. similarly, the chipboard shapes are done by spreading texture paste on them to create the weathered look.

For this page, I made the butterfly folding the doily in half and tie with twist tie, then added the butterfly sticker. For the rosette, I used Itop to make the button and adhered to a trim rosette. Added seed beads to the Maya Road leaves. Painted the Dusty Attic butterfly chipboards with gesso and inked the sides with distress ink and added the swaroski crystals.

I loved trees. They gave me a calming effect. Trees always remind me of God's creativity and His loving care and His ever-presence. And I love Christmas because its Lord Jesus' birthday!! So definitely I love Christmas trees!!! I made the trees by folding the 3 sizes of cupcake liners into quarter and painting them with green acrylic paint before layering them. Added the Maya Road pins as the "star" of the Christmas trees. Made the banners with both My Little Shoebox and Maya Road banners.

"Love" Mixed Media Album e

This is one of my favourite page!! I love the cuteness and roundness of Russian dolls. The doll on the right is hand drawn and painted with acrylic paints. For the face, I used a circle punch on MLS paper and painted the hair with Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens and the face and cheek colours with Faber Castell Gelatoes. The dolls on the left are digital images.

"Love" Mixed Media Album f

For this page, I used MLS Sew Cute collection and Prima canvas tag and stamp. Dress form is my all time favourite and weakness!!! Every time I see dress form products, I couldn't resist and end up buying them. For the canvas tag, I inked a snowflake stencil with distress ink and layered the cut elements from MLS. I added twines to the spools. The white with purple design dress form was drawn by my Silhouette Cameo. Loved the details on that dress form but it took quite a while for Cameo to draw it out.  The Love stickers are just the perfect title for this chipboard page as it fit just right on the scallop edge.

"Love" Mixed Media Album g

This is another favourite page. She Art girl is like the "in" thing for mixed media project now. So how could I not be mesmerized by them?? Loved Christy Tomlinson's designs!! I stamped the She Art Girls twice, on the plain MLS paper and on the patterned paper (for the skirt). Coloured the face and upper body with Faber Castell Big Brush Pens and Pitt Artist Pens and Gelatoes.

"Love" Mixed Media Album h

This is my top favourite page for this album!! Not only do I love poppies like Donna Downey, I also love the labels on each poppy. Those are stamped with Christy Tomlinson's My Living Canvas stamps. I also jounal on the side of each stalk the things I want to achieve or take note for each label. This is like a life's journal to me. To create the poppies, I painted the cupcale liners with Faber Castell Big Brush Pens and added water to spread the colour, then fold in half and crumbled them. For the stamped poppies, I used Donna Downey foam stamp with acrylic paint and also added black beads to the flower center.

For this last page, it seems like an unfinished page. I wanted to do more journalling all over the page in the first place.  But after staring at it for few days, decided to leave the background blank. I might add to it in the later months. But for now, its a finished page to me. Not sure you recognise the species but these are owls!! My hubby said it look like birds. ha ha...These owls are done by layering two sizes of circle punch-outs. Drew the branches with Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens.

Well, this is a long post. Hope you haven't fall asleep. :)

Do try your hands on mixed media. It's fun and addictive and also therapeutic. It really take the stress out of me.

Thats all for today. Have tons of fun. Thanks for dropping by. Do check out my 4th Blog Candy.

"Secret Garden Love"

Hi, everyone. Today I want to share about my Jan's projects for My Little Shoebox. I created 2 cards and 1 album using the Secret Garden collection.

"Secret Garden" Card

"Secret Garden" card

I created a window with Spellbinders die. Inside the card, I cut, layered and folded the flowers and added glossy accent to the flower center.

"Love Comes Knocking" Card

"Love Comes Knocking" card a

This is a rather big card so as to accommodate the Dusty Attic chipboard door. I painted the chipboard door with Folkart Extreme Glitter Paint. Layered the doily, Maya Road Journal Tag. I cut out the Love words from the paper and adhered to top of tag. I love the look of the wreath hanging on the door.

"Love Comes Knocking" card b

Inside the card, I mat the paper with corrugated board. Love the raw look of corrugated board.

I have one more project of a mixed media album that I'm going to share in another post later. Do stay tune.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

Fabulous Friday Challenge - Music

Hi, friends. Its time for Fabulous Friday Challenge at Frosted Designs. This week, we love to see you use Music on your projects.

"You Make My Heart Sing"

"You Make My Heart Sing" a

I made a 3D piano box using white cardstock. Valentine's Day is next month so I thought to make a gift box to put a "surprise" inside.  The tag was stamped with Prima and Crafty Secrets stamps and swaroski crystals are also added. I love blings now, thanks to a beloved friend, Lina. She had such a great influence on us with her love of "blings" (glitter, crystals and anything that shine).

"You Make My Heart Sing" b

Another view. I love mulberry flowers and added them at the lid and the side of the piano. Love the flowing effect that the flowers gave. I added the pom pom trim too.

"You Make My Heart Sing" c

From this view, you can see that I placed the tag inside the lid. I also put some fake flower petals inside. I can place the surprise gift inside too. I also added some flowers at the edge of the lid, to create the support for the lid to open up for a bit.

Well, I hope you enjoy my project.Chinese New Year is coming soon, in 2 weeks' time. Here I wish all Chinese an early "Happy New Year"!! God bless you all.

Do join in this fun challenge at Frosted Designs. I will be sharing more about my project for My Little Shoebox for Jan 2013 in the next few day. Do keep a lookout.

Have fun creating. Thanks for dropping by.

Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge - Bucket List

Hi, everyone. This week at Frosted Designs we have a Bucket List Challenge. You are to include one thing or many things on your bucket list in your projects. Some of you may ask, what's a bucket list? According to dictionary, a bucket list is a list of things that you want to do before you die, comes from the term "kicked the bucket".

And here's what I had created:

"My Bucket List" Art Journal Page

I decided to create a art journal page. Used colour pencils to depict each thing that I want to do/achieve in my life. We can draw and colour our own life, what we want out of it. And I want my life to be colourful.

I used Neocolor II watercolor crayons for this page. For the front row of color pencils, I adhered patterned papers as the body.

I hope you like my project. Do join us for this challenge at Frosted Designs. And do drop by here to win my 4th Blog Candy. Have fun!!

Thanks for visiting.

2013 Organiser

Hi, friends. Finally I got the time and the right weather to take picture of my organiser that I made for 2013. Last year, I started on making my own organiser and I loved it. But I made a bigger one this year.

Loved mixed media and chipboards. So I added both into my organiser again.

I used Prima paper and kraft cardstock as base. Then I added some washis and the chipboard shapes. Painted the chipboards with gesso and misted them. Also added some swarovski crystals. I wanted to leave the copy as plain and flat as possible as this is my working organiser. So I want it to be able to really write on it and carry around without the bulk.

I hope you are inspired to make one for yourself. Have fun!!

Thanks for visiting.

Published..... But Not Me!!

Happy 2013!!!! A year had passed so quickly. Time really flies!!!

Wanted to share something with you. On New Year's Eve, we received a puzzling mail. The sender is from a publishing company in Malaysia. And inside the mail is this:

After several head scratching by me and my hubby, it suddenly dawn on me. A few months back, my girl drew a picture of Barney and asked me to send to the "Barney" Magazine in Malaysia. And the next thought came to me, "Oh My!!! Don't tell me my girl's drawing got selected to be published???"

What followed is panic!!!! Rational reasoning tells me that if we got this in Dec, it must mean the magazine is dated for Dec 2012. And the day we received this cup is the last day of Dec!!!!! And we haven't been buying this magazine for a few months. So we, as a whole family went around our town searching for this magazine at bookstore, new stands, supermarkets!!! But everywhere are sold out.

And our last resort is to search for it the next day at the biggest book store in the city!!!! On the way home, dejected, we passed by a petrol kiosk. And I just suggested to my hubby, "why don't we go in and see whether the store at the petrol kiosk got any stock?". While driving in, I kept praying for God to help us find it. And to my joy, there's 4 magazines left!!!!! I couldn't contain my joy and thankfulness!!!! I called my hubby immediately (he's in the car with the kids) and tell him the good news!!! And I bought 2, one for my girl and one for me to keep. Hmmm..... Should I scrapbook about it??

And here's the magazine:

And her artwork:

We are one proud parents!!!!! Told my hubby that my first publication is at age 34 and hers is at age 7. Ha ha.... But the joy of our girl's publication far exceeded mine. :) So happy and thankful!!!

Well, its a joyful beginning of 2013. Oh ya, I made a 2013 organiser. But had no time yet to take photo and the wet weather doesn't help too. I will try to take a picture of it and share with you. :)

Thanks for dropping by and reading my rambling!!!! But thanks for sharing the joy!!
